When does the pass actually open for vehicles?
The official pass-opening ceremony typically falls in late May or early June, after the spring avalanche clearance on the Prato and Trafoi sides. We track the Provincia di Bolzano and Bormio council announcements daily and share the confirmed date with every guest whose itinerary overlaps the window. Outside that window the pass is closed to vehicles and we do not run road ascents.

What group sizes can you accommodate?
Self-guided itineraries run from solo travellers up to small private parties of eight. Guided convoys with a support vehicle take groups of six to twelve on our Ducati and BMW fleet. Larger groups of up to twenty-four are handled as private charters with two guides and a tail vehicle — please mention the party size in your message and we'll route it to the right planner.

Do I need a specific motorcycle licence?
An A-class licence (unrestricted) is required for the BMW R 1250 GS and Ducati Multistrada V4 in our fleet. An A2 licence can be accommodated on our smaller Multistrada 660s with engine limiters — let us know in advance so we can prepare the right machine. Your national licence is accepted across all three access roads, but we recommend an International Driving Permit alongside it.

What is your deposit and cancellation policy?
A 30% deposit secures your dates once the itinerary is confirmed, with the balance due sixty days before arrival. We ran a zero-cancellation record across the 2024 and 2025 seasons across all six itinerary types. If you need to cancel for a covered reason (medical, family emergency) your deposit transfers in full to alternative dates within twenty-four months.

What happens if the pass closes mid-trip?
It is rare but it happens — usually an unseasonable September storm. In that case we redirect the day's ascent to the Umbrailpass on the Swiss side (note: this is in Switzerland, not Italy, and is not the Stelvio itself), the Gavia from Ponte di Legno, or the Mortirolo from Monno, all of which we know intimately. There is no refund for the missed summit, but every alternative is included at no extra cost and our 24/7 roadside line stays open.
